Mare’s Tail, otherwise known as Horsetail, is a common, deep-rooted invasive weed that can be found all over Great Britain. Therefore, in this article, we will discuss what mares tail looks like and how it can be eradicated.
What does it look like?
Growing every year, typically in the Spring and Summer, Mare’s Tail will initially appear to have tall, light brown stems with a cone like structure at the end of the stems.
This develops into upright green plants that appear fir tree-like in nature and can grow up to 60cm tall.
how to treat it
Recognised as an invasive weed, we consider mare’s tail a huge problem to both control and remove. Removing the weed by hand has been proven to be difficult and shallow occasional weeding can make the problem worse, as Mare’s tail can grow from any small pieces left behind.
Another treatment method is a herbicide. However, this can take a number of years to actually kill the species.
