Eradication of Japanese Knotweed In Oldham:
Eradication usually takes place by two primary methods; both are successful and there are
advantages to both methods:
Chemical treatment – This involves 9 visits over three years in August, September and October of each year. This is followed by two years of monitoring and the site can then be certified as being free of Japanese knotweed.
Excavation – The rhizomes can be growing up to 3m deep and 7m horizontally, so when we excavate we usually use a minimum 13 ton digger. The soil is classified as “Controlled waste” and as such you must be licenced to remove it from site. If you are not, you can face a fine of up to £20,000! We can either back fill the hole created by the excavation or leave it for the clients’ ground workers to backfill with waste from the site e.g. soil from where the foundations are being dug out. This then keeps the cost down. Excavation is the ideal solution if you are developing the site and can’t afford to wait three years for the chemical treatment to be effective.
