Removal of Japanese Knotweed in Derbyshire
On this particular job, we found that the plant had grown so rapidly that it had spread across parts of three gardens. The origin of the Japanese Knotweed was on a property which belonged to someone who lived overseas. Therefore, they had no inclination to pay towards the cost. To protect their own properties from this invasive weed, the other two neighbours chose to pay for the remediation on all three properties and split the cost between them. Where the main outbreak had occurred, the gardener had been attempting to cut the Japanese Knotweed back. As a result of being cut back, the trimmings travelled downstream and infected another garden, worsening the spread. This is due to each fragment of stem having two nodules that can each produce another plant. Therefore, through continuous attempts to control the Knotweed it in fact had a detrimental effect on the surrounding environment.
