How did Japanese Knotweed in Barnet start? This invasive plant is wide spread across the UK. Japanese Knotweed originally grew in Asia, Japan, China and Korea. It was then introduced into the UK by the Victorians as an ornamental plant. Although the weed had natural predators, in this country we don’t, and therefore the spread of the weed is harder to prohibit. In order to treat the Japanese Knotweed, we use a herbicide which is 300x stronger than the one that is available to the public.
We use this to kill all of the rhizomes of the weed so that no regrowth occurs. We would use this treatment five times over the course of a year. After the past 20 years of experience, we have had a 100% success rate. If left untreated, Japanese Knotweed can devalue your house by up to 50% and cause structural damage.
