Unlike many plants, Japanese Knotweed does not spread by normal germination methods outside of Asia, its native environment. A section of rhizome the size of a fingernail can spread very easily and grow into a new plant. Japanese Knotweed can also lay dormant for up to 20 years!
It is illegal to fly-tip Japanese Knotweed as it is classed as a ‘controlled waste’ so it must be disposed of off-site in a controlled manner and removed to a licensed landfill site.
